Welcome to Abu Dhabi but Behave Yourself

Pamphlet with behavior guidelines for foreign tourists by the Abu Dhabi tourist police.

The emirate of Abu Dhabi welcomes foreign tourists with a set of behavior rules.

Abu Dhabi has come up with a booklet called Advice for Tourists which is available in twelve languages- Arabic, English, Russian, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Italian, Korean, Spanish, Urdu and Hindi
Foreign visitors are urged to wear 'respectful clothing' and are reminded that 'abuse of drugs and psychotropic substances is against the law'.

Tourists are further reminded that certain activities such as prostitution, kissing in public, beggary and cross dressing are actionable in the oil rich emirate.

The booklet is obviously not intended to put off the crowds of doped, mini skirt wearing cross dressers flooding the malls of Abu Dhabi. It comes in the midst of public discussions on 'modest behavior and respectable clothing'.

The Federal National Council is even demanding a law be issued on a UAE dress so that local culture and sensibilities are protected from bad influences. Al Rahoumi, a council member from Dubai, told the Gulf News: 'There has to be respect for the people in the UAE. Residents and tourists should dress modestly and not spread their bad habits for our children to see and imitate.'
